When resin enhances the beauty of wood

Hello,

My name is Michel. I am a woodturner and have a passion for wood as a living material. For several years now, I have been on a fascinating journey: combining natural wood with resin. This combination brings unique pieces to life, striking a balance between tradition and modernity.

The idea came to me while I was working on a piece of split olive wood. It had a beautiful shape, but its hollows seemed to doom it. Rather than set it aside, I decided to experiment with deep blue-tinted resin. It was a revelation: the wood grain and the swirls of resin complemented each other with an almost magical harmony.

Why resin?

Resin allows me to highlight the wood’s imperfections—cracks, knots, and cavities—by transforming them into aesthetic features. I can add pigments or metallic powders, or maintain a crystalline transparency that reveals the wood’s history.

Every creation is an adventure. You have to prepare the mold carefully, pour the resin without creating bubbles, and wait patiently for it to cure… Then comes the turning process, where I reshape the piece and restore its fluidity.

The result? Decorative and functional items (bowls, pens, trays, and more) with a distinctive character that you won’t find anywhere else.

I see this approach as a dialogue: nature provides the material, and I create the piece. The resin doesn’t hide the wood’s imperfections; it highlights them and tells a story.

If this work speaks to you, feel free to follow me here or check out my creations in the shop. And if you have an old piece of wood that’s special to you… who knows? It might be reborn as a one-of-a-kind work of art.

See you soon in the workshop,

Michel
